I. Introduction–Beginning an Untidy Journey

Whatever our struggles, we are infinitely beautiful in all our ugliness, infinitely whole in all our brokenness, and, all of us, without exception, so, so precious. This is the post excerpt.

Untidy Beginnings

Hello, and welcome to my brand new blog, Untidy Journeys. Thanks for participating in this journey with me. Whether you join in the conversation once or come to like this blog and participate more often, I appreciate the chance to share some piece of the journey with anyone willing to take it with me.

We are all on a journey, and mine tends to be untidy. I have an organizational disability, so physically, mine is a lot more untidy than most! But that’s not what I’m talking about. The journey of mind, heart, soul, or spirit can also be untidy, much more untidy than most of the spiritual reading I do ever suggests and certainly more untidy than the memes and short sayings we use (and I’m not criticizing here) to inspire ourselves. Particularly for those who deal with anxiety or depression, or for those who suffer from any kind of traumatic reactivity, the journey can be a lot less peaceful and a lot messier than much of our spiritual literature implies. But messy things can also be deeply meaningful, very beautiful, and, I would add, deeply spiritual. So I found myself wanting to write the things I wanted to read, the things I felt like I was having to pound out for myself, because most of the spiritual reading I did left me feeling like a walking disaster, someone who couldn’t achieve peace in the right terms or the right way. And yet…. and yet…. I knew then and I know more fully all the time, there is more to it than that. Whatever our struggles, we are infinitely beautiful in all our ugliness, infinitely whole in all our brokenness, and, all of us, without exception, so, so precious.

So here’s to the journey, into messiness and hope, whether we are happy or sad, full of daring or scared half out of our minds. It’s all part of the path, all part of the journey.

I’m ready to sail.
